We’ve tried chess but my friend takes far too long. I wanted to play scrabble but there is no decent website for it and the app is a pain. Any other recommendations?

Been playing Mythos Tales with a friend online (using my game copy and the free remote play assets) so I set up my own virtual board in Roll20. I recommend it if you don't like tabletop simulator and are okay with setting up boards yourself.

I've done a similar set up in Roll20 for playing Tragedy Looper as well, its very easy to set up virtual boards for playing remotely since none of my friends own (or want to learn) Tabletop Simulator, but they are comfortable with Roll20. I normally use it for rpgs but it works surprisingly well for lots of board games (the only downside being if you have large number of cards in a game, you will obviously have to upload those, but it does support card decks and player hands of card). It even lets you play cards face down and flip them back and forth which is important for games like Tragedy Looper.
