So early morning today i had a bunch of kids on my door asking donation for Ayodhya Ram Mandir. They had an official looking cash memo in name of some local temple and the lead boy was giving them with all the authority a 14 year old's signature can muster. He even had a saffron scarf to demonstrate his legitimacy. I want to ask in this era of UPI, why are temples sending kids to collect donation? And will these donations ever reach whomever it is who is building the Ram Mandir? I did not pay. Simply shook my head and said no. The lead kid immediately started calling some number as if to report me or to mark my house and I felt a tinge of fear in my body. Despite all the reasoning and sense, i thought is it worth taking this risk for some 500 bucks? And I am in a well to do place with "some" confidence in the police. I shudder to think what condition I'd have been if I was in UP? This risk from the people who see that donation as your mark of devotion towards a religion. For which they have plunged the country into riots, violence and disharmony for over 30 years. Is it wise to be perceived as non conforming by this group? And all this from a bunch of kids who did not even threaten me. Just pretended to call someone, and some murmurs, and some looks. Is this how you feel? Have you donated for Ram mandir? Will you? How many of you feel confident saying no to such saffron brandishing mobs? Even one consisting of kids?
